Darling, AZ

The neighborhood of Darling is located in Winona, a populated place in Coconino County, Arizona. Winona’s railroad station was renamed Darling in honor of William B. Darling, a local railroad engineer. The Darling Cinder Pit, a cinder pit mine near Winona has been named after him too. Winona originally used to be an unincorporated village named Walnut Creek. However, in the 1950s, it became a part of the Flagstaff.


Located along Interstate 40, Winona is largely obscure. However, the Darling Cinder Pit was once the largest cinder-producing site in the state. Cinder from the pit made its way to the building industry in the form of cinder blogs, while Santa Fe Railroad used it to produce pumice for railway tracks.

Visitors and residents can enjoy plenty of shopping and dining amenities, thanks to the recent development in Winona. Key attractions in and around the area include the Winona Meteorite, Cosnino Caves, and the Grand Falls – also known as the chocolate Niagra.

Really liked staying at Francine's place! It was very convenient for arrival and going to and from Arizona Snowball. Walking into town is a bit of a hike but doable. You have to use mirroring from a portable device to watch TV in the main room, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, a very pleasant stay!
